Statewide Farmland Preservation Formula
08 Nov 2024, Posted by News, State News inThe SADC recently added two important documents to its website for the new formula value. One is a summary report of the outreach and research that was done, key findings and the valuation for the new formula. Click here to read the summary.
The second is the presentation that was presented at the last SADC meeting on such. Click here for the presentation.
Both documents detail the potential for farmland owners to receive up to 90% of their easement value through four categories of features. There are the traditional agricultural resource values including soil type, size of farm, tillability, contiguity to other farms and water supply. For natural resources, additional payment will be given for aquifer recharge, upland forest, hydrology (wetlands and floodplain), contiguity and surface water quality (streams). Additional factors include the risk of conversion (to residential, solar or warehouses for example), proximity to critical infrastructure (airports/military/power stations) and local significance. The last category of voluntary additional restrictions includes a 10% impervious cover limit and house size limit of 2,500 square feet. For more information reach out to Ashley at the Farmhouse.
